George Ohr was a great artist. Love most of his work and it is found all over the city. Nice that they teach at the museum and have local artist art for sale and on display. I was pleasantly surprised at all the history provided there also. Good place to stop.
The Frank Gehry designed museum is well worth a visit, if only for the architecture. At present, the exhibits are a bit sparse, but more pods are being added. Some interesting displays of the work of Ohr, the mad potter of Biloxi. Depending on when you visit, you may be able to see local potters at work.
From the Geary-designed "pods" to the standing exhibit of the "Mad Potter's" (George Ohr's) works, to the traveling exhibits, this is a place you should see when in Biloxi. Tired of all the clanging, jingling, and boinging of the casinos? Want a little culture and a place for a little meditative recuperation? Well, here it is. If you visit Biloxi...

We had visited before Katrina and knew that the casino barge had been set down on top of the museum. We were anxious to see what had been saves. The pottery was spared and the new museum complex is fantastic! Though not yet completed, the site is already a work of art. A must see for the architecture, as well...

Really enjoyed this place although I did not understand a lot of the art on display. The docents were pleasant and knowledgeable. I really loved the architecture and the campus with the age-old live oaks and pleasant sitting areas. Too bad so much was lost during Katrina but the reproduction of the old freedman's family home was authentic and gave...

It was a pleasant surprise. Went there to see a traveling exhibit and was much surprised by the facilty. This place was all but wiped off the map by hurricane Katrina. They fixed it up and added a few new gizmo's. Not your usual tourist place. Couple blocks back from the beach boulevard, but easy enough to see by unique...

Drawn to see the Gehry design, I made a point to swing by here on my business trip for a short break. The city is attempting to create a point of culture amidst the gulf coast casino world.
The new buildings are wildly unusual in shape and make for a small campus. Galleries are distinct buildings with several shows on...

Frank Gehry designed the buildings for this museum around the live oaks on the property. Once the 'pods' are finished, George Ohr's work will have a permanent home there. That should be sometime in 2013. The Ohr work that is on display is really interesting. I think we will plan a visit to nearby Ocean Springs where there is a...

George Ohr, a native of Biloxi, was considered "The Mad Potter of Biloxi". His work is unlike any other you've ever seen. Owning an original piece of Ohr pottery, I can appreciate how fine and delicate some of his pieces are, which unfortunately, the public can't appreciate in the museum, for obvious reasons. The building itself is wonderful, modern and...
