Sacrifice Cliff is easily seen from many areas in Billings. The story I've heard is that a smallpox epidemic occurred during early contact of Native Americans with whites. The Natives had absolutely no immunity to the dreadful disease. Brave warriors road their horses off the cliff believing their sacrifice would save their people.

This is a beautiful site, with a great view of Billings, the rim rocks, the bluffs overlooking the Yellowstone River, and the mountains in the distance. Now, at the bottom of the cliff, is development. However while standing there you can imagine what it looked like in the past, with no development, when two Native Americans rode their horses over... It is beautiful on a clear day---you can see all of Billings, and several mountain ranges in the distance, too. It has an interesting history, too; the name has great significance :)
