The river was a bit murky and filled with rapids in certain areas thanks to the winter run off from nearby mountains. We stopped a few times to walk our dog on the banks and were taken in by the power, majesty and beauty of the entire area.

US 191 is a winding and picture postcard drive which follows the river from Yellowstone Park into Bozeman, MT. It can be icy and treacherous in winter, so drive carefully. You can have sightings of deer, moose, and mountain sheep occasionally, and the river offers class flyfishing. An occasional cougar has been reported near the camp grounds.

Lots of Wildlife to be seen along it in the winter! And it flows year round and doesn't seem to freeze up!

We camped along the Gallatin last summer because it is so close to Bozeman. The highway runs along the river, so it's not exactly a get-away. If you want to camp on the river you will hear and most likely see the traffic. The fishing is hit and miss on this river.

I drive down the canyon often and always find myself watching the river. There are always fly fishermen every few miles. In the summer you cant miss all the people rafting along. There is frequently wildlife on either side, i have seen lots of deer and bighorn sheep. Its a great drive, but it has been quite smokey this summer... More

Very nice, and the fishing is great. It was unfortunate that there were fires in Idaho and the smoke created an unpleasant haze, otherwise this area is much better.

The surroundings are beautiful settled into a meadow with the river close by. We saw deer running through the field while eating dinner. All of the ingredients are fresh and cooked to perfection. Not a place if you are in a hurry, but a place to enjoy an evening with friends or a loved one. Very casual and elegant at... More

Once you get about 10 miles South of Bozeman, there are dozens of pull-offs with the river less than 50 yards away. Nice fish in the river, we caught cutthroats, rainbows and browns.

We had 17 high school classmates (class of 1958) having a reunion, and we went whitewater rafting with Geyser Whitewater Expeditions. It was a blast. Some of us 70+ year olds had prior experience and some didn't, but it all worked out great. Rapids were mostly class 2 and 3, but with a 4 thrown in here or there. Water... More

...just the way I like it! We fished the stream just south of Belgrade in a couple places as far down as Gallatin Gateway.
