Loved the train ride. We booked the first class adults only car, and had a wonderful lunch and dessert. Not "exciting," but a very relaxing and enjoyable activity.

Went on the Nantahala gorge round trip with the GSMR a few days ago. We enjoyed it, though we were a little disappointed with the views, not much of a gorge feeling in my opinion. The views of the Fontana lake were nice however. Staff on the train were all very nice and helpful and overall we had a good...

If you are looking for thrills and excitement, you will NOT find it here. SOME teenagers may find this very boring. (Ours did.) But, if you want a relaxing ride with beautiful, often breathtaking scenery, this is what you are looking for. I think younger kids would find this trip to be awesome, especially in the open air cars where...

My husband and I had the best time today! Our experience from the moment we stepped foot on the train was one of excellent service, superior, knowledgeable staff and nothing but the best they had to offer from their drinks, lunch and dessert. Such a beautiful way to spend our day and we learned so much more about the history...

Our whole family enjoyed the scavenger hunt through the museum's train display. Great to see the kids looking earnestly and the adults in deep concentration! Museum has a great deal of antique and collectible train memorabilia. Fun visit!
a nice day out, I travelled in the first class outside carriage which, having looked at the rest, I feel was the best option. John, the server, seemed to know his stuff, especially seeing as he said he had only started a couple of weeks ago.
We have never been on such a boring train ride. We thought we'd see mountains and valleys. We saw trees, trees and more trees. Five hours of BORING! No mountains....dull and duller and overpriced.
We did the gorge tour and it was pretty boring. Goes along Fontana for a while but not much into the river and rapids too much. If you are not much for outdoor stores save lunch for the stop at NOC. the food on the train isn't anything to write home about.
nice scenic ride back in history. Spoilt just a bit by the lunch con. Pay 9 dollars in advance for an "adult" hot dog with chips and a drink. Or pay 6.50 dollars for exactly the same thing, except that is called a child version.
My husband and I took the Great Smokey Mountain ride and lunch in April 2013. It was very relaxing and the meal was very good. We both had the beef. We rode in the dining car for the whole trip. Our table seated 4 and met a very nice couple from Raleigh, North Carolina.
Beautiful scenery and excellent waitress. We...
