Being back in time with ancient houses and little shops with river cruise a must to see whole town area. Pub cafes and karaoke lounges just don't fit in this ancient town and it would have been great if they had played music on ancient Chinese instruments instead.

This an interesting old Chinese town as it is centered around a river. The place had gone through a lot of changes and yet the facade of most of the old houses had remained the same. They are now mostly pub or disco during the night and you should visit the place twice, once in the day and once in... More

Very beautiful and unique big old town along the river. Very nice architecture. There are so many cafe and restaurant for river view. Many shops sell traditional items. Very enjoy during daytime. However, during night time, one part of the town, which are teems with pubs and bars become alive. So noisy.

Phoenix Town or Fenghuang is home to two minority groups(Tujia & Miao. It is a riverside town with many bridges and stepping stones. Both sides of the river have wooden houses, many of them are guest houses and restaurants. But avoid going during the weekend as many, many Chinese visit as tourists

We spend a whole afternoon walking around in this city and would have loved to spend more time and at least one evening there, but this was already a great experience, you have the feeling to go back in time, it is perfect, clean, very nice! Recommended.

Coming from Phoenix, Arizona, USA, I had to visit this town. I found it to have very interesting architecture with houses built on stilts along the river edge. There are many old buildings and an interesting ols walkway along the river. It gave one an impression of how the town was originally built and how important the river was to... More

Spent a day here, alhough it took us a four and a half drive there and the same back. Not being from China, I thought it was ok but maybe a bit grey. A lot of the Chinese people in the tour with us were slightly disappointed and didn't view the place to be particularly pretty. Its a small town... More

This is very close to ZhangJiaJie and I say the only reason to go here is if you have some spare days after doing everything famous in ZhangJiaJie. It is supposed to be this old city and the old quarter is really big with a nice river and in the night everything lights up. But it has become too touristy.... More

I've been travelling throughout China the past five years, being thrilled by both grand vistas and small things, like talking with locals or trying a treat only found locally. Of course, my wife has been to China many years before and always says "it was different then". Well, of course it was. Don't expect people to not take advantage of... More

It's a historic town. We toured the town in the evening, that's what the tour guide it's at its best. Well.... it depends on one's life style I guess. For exampole, the most popular spot we saw mostly "bars", yes bars, beer halls, etc.... Wasn't impressed.
