On a rainy day during our Myrtle Beach vacation, we took a day trip up to Wilmington to see this museum. It was about an hour and a half drive from South Myrtle Beach. Both my father and my three-year-old son are train fans, and thoroughly enjoyed the museum. It's not huge, but neither is the admission price. You can... More

If you like trains, this is a must see. A steam engine, box car and a caboose outside and inside, displays and a room full of model railroads. Enjoyable for young and old alike. Children can push the buttons (which are at a kids height) and see the trains move. The caboose out front can be reserved for birthday parties.... More

Took my 1 and 1/2 year old grandson here and he loved it! There's a huge train track set up around a mini Wilmington. Buttons he could push for train interaction. Also, a toddler train area. He loved getting on the big train with all the real life sounds. Lots of train history for the adults, and a nice little gift... More

Lots of fun and intersting information. Kids and big kids really enjoyed our visit. It really ties into a days fun on the banks of the Cape Fear and historic Wilmington.

Wilmington used to be the headquarters for the Atlantic Coast rail, but there isn't much left other than an old engine and a caboose. The museum is small, but has some good displays. The backroom, about a third of the museum in size, is a very large train table running many types of model trains.

We loved it. My 10 year old had a blast looking at and walking throught the engine and kaboose. She thought it was the neatest thing that the model had actual buildings and places that you could see when you walked around town. Family as a whole loved walking through it all and pushing all the buttons and seeing what... More

Train enthusiast or not this is a fun little day trip. My son loves being able to go into the train cars outside and the train layout inside is very exciting to look at and admire.

Educational and fun for the children. A fantastic model train layout depicting the Wilmington area in the 1950s.

This is a great place for a short adventure. It has a complex area of many miniature trains running at the same time. The landscaping and scenery are quite detailed within the miniature train area. It only takes about an hour or so to see everything. The staff are knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions.

I took my 2 year old here for a day trip and we were in and out in an hour, they have a little play area for kids to play and interact, plus a couple rooms with hobby train displays and a few caboose cars outside for walk through. Good place if you absolutely love trains, otherwise, wouldn't go back... More
