Do try and visit this on a mild day. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and views wandering around this ruined castle but it wouldn't have been so pleasant if cold or rainy. In good weather you can wander round or sit on the walls drinking in the peaceful atmosphere and watching the birds on the cliffs below - binoculars are... More

We didn't go inside but really enjoyed the walk and thought the ruins looked amazing. We didn't think it was badly priced, just that the weather worsened and we didn't want to get too soggy!

The castle itself is nothing special but the views are fantastic and the walk including a lap around the castle works out around 3.5miles so not a bad little trek out. Warkworth Castle is the best for ruins though. Very windy when you get to the castle, so be prepared...

It's a very pleasant walk from Craster to the castle along the cliff tops. When you arrive back in Craster you feel as if you have earned a drink and a meal at one of the restaurants in the village (all good!).

We've been to Dunstanburgh a few times but decided on a Bank Holiday outing. We parked at the car park with the National Trust shop and walked to the Castle via Dunstan Heights (the path opposite the entrance to the car park). Some wonderful spring scenes of lambs and gorse and yellowhammers, then a superb reveal of the castle itself... More

Lovely walk up to the castle on a beautiful day! The castle is brilliant to wander around and being able to go upstairs is fantastic! Bit windy but at least the sun was out!

Fabulous and atmospheric walk to see an amazing piece of northern history - everyone should go, but dress up warm as it was freezing the day we went!

be warned....no toilets at the castle. Great spot to watch razorbills, kittiwakes, fulmars. try the Raspberry curd on sale, you won't regret it.

a magnificent castle albeit quite ruinous. the castle stand on a promentary jutting out into the North sea. it can be very cold and exposed, as it was yesterday when we visited. excellent coastal walking both north and south. Craster village had a nice pub and cafe, "Shoreline cafe" (Great Tea) lovely cakes etc and of course "Craster Kippers"
