Overall it's a nice island, but is definitely a party joint on Friday and Saturday evenings. The downtown scene is probably not a good place to take the kids on these dates, but the rest of the time it's fine.

As a day trip, a trip to South Bass Island is a fairly expensive proposition for a family. There is the cost of the ferry and then the cost of transportation once you are on the island.
We took the Miller Ferry which puts you on the island away from the downtown area. I will certainly check into the Jet...

The staff at the airport were helpful and friendly. The flight over was incredible. We went by Cedar Point and then on to South Bass Island.

Besides Put-In-Bay being a party island, I like to visit this island to get away from everything and relax. This island has a lot of quiet spots to watch the sunset and think about nothing at all. It's a good time renting a golf cart and seeing the whole island and then enjoy the night life when the sun goes...

Nice ferry ride on the Jet Express to a little island full of various attractions, shopping, restaurants, pubs, lodging and other services. We mapped out our day and rented our little golf cart at the dock. Our first stop was Tippers for some excellent Walleyes bites and adult beverages then on to sight see when it started to pour buckets...

Spent a weekend camping with a Boy Scout troop. Some interesting things to see on the island. Favorite part was the ferry ride to the island. 5-6 foot waves made for an interesting ride...

We took the Jet Express and were dropped off right in the heart of the activity. We rented a golf cart and toured the entire island from every angle. Ate something then left. Crazy people over there.

It's a nice ferry ride over and many things to do there but I would advise not taking your kids Labor day weekend. My wife and I have been there twice now on the aforementioned weekend and were mooned twice. No, we are not going to try for the tri-vector! When we go back it will be in the middle...
