....take your camera....esp if you can catch a sunset! Great to explore the lighthouse's history and the family that lived there. Visitors center is interesting.
We were passing by the good viewpoint in newport and this is one of them. The beach view is beautiful. Stop by this area when you're in town.
I visited this lighthouse with my family one summer and we were just sight seeing and stopped by the lighthouse. The beach is beautiful and they have a nice trail leading to a great view of the ocean horizon. It has free parking and not a far walk from the beach or lighthouse. We took the lighthouse tour and learned... More
Walk down the steps to the black cobble beach and see seals resting, tide pools with starfish, aneomes, raptors and sea birds. Take a guided tour of the lighthouse and walk the circular staircase to the top. Good fun
Integral part of the Oregon coast, worth a stop. We had intended to keep moving that day but were glad we stopped.
Yaquina Head lighthouse and the area surrounding it are great little place to visit if passing through Newport. Remember, this will not be a quick visit. Usually you have to park far and walk quite a bit to the lighthouse. The visitor crowds tend to be big so you should be prepared for some long wait lines. But if the... More
Definitely don't pass this up if you are in town or passing through. It's easy to get to with open parking. In front of the free parking area is a great view of the bay, and if you walk up the stairs behind you to the lighthouse you can take a tour (donations optional). It was a fun quick stop,... More
Spectacular ocean view, beautiful lighthouse and very easy access. Very short walk on a nice paved walkway. They say this is very popular for whale watching but we were there at the wrong time of year :(. Definately recommend this stop as you can spend less than 30 minutes if you are in a hurry or hang around a while... More
We stumbled upon this little park because we missed a turn, and it was great! The lighthouse itself hasn't been in operation for a long time, but they have made it into a museum with self-guided tour. The overlook and beach are great too. The tour is free and there is a cute little giftshop too.
Recommend you take a tour of the lighthouse. During our visit in September, the free tours were available from 10:00AM to 4:00PM, but they did close down the tours when the winds reached 50mph! Wonderful experience for us adults and would be good for kids too! The BLM folks were excellent at both the Visitor Center and at the Lighthouse
