Two women and a teen girl visited on a sunny/cloudy afternoon on a day when the Pennsylvania state museum was closed. It was a great outing for us. We were given a tour by a friendly, knowledgable guide, we learned a lot about the history of the house and felt warmly received as well. The grounds across the street looked... More

We tried to visit this tourist spot in April only to find it closed to the public. It would have been nice if it had been mentioned on the website. The grounds were nice and we brought a picnic lunch to make the most of the location.

On a recent weekend getaway we stopped by here on a gorgeous day. Though there mansion was still closed, the park attracted us since it was free. Nice grounds to walk around for the weather, informational boards everywhere and a perfect little park outside the city. There was a small playground for kids to play on, clean restroom facilities and... More

Truthastic here, so on our recent road trip in Harrisburg we decided to see some of the local attractions. Don't know if I would call this a Fort or Mansion it's kinda small, but in a great location right on the river. Probaly not for kids as my son was more interested in the river & the fantastic rail bridge... More

Love love LOVE Ft. Hunter. They have events throughout the year that are fun to attend, last time I was there we toured the mansion - really the curators there love what they do and love the history and taking care of the place. They really do want to honor history and it's cool to see a live archaeological dig... More

For our most recent visit, we enjoyed a tour of the mansion while it was decorated for Christmas. The decorations were reminiscent of Williamsburg, VA. The lady giving the tours was extremely kid friendly, and my 11, 9, and 7 year old were far more interested than I expected, asking questions right and left. Fort Hunter also offers wonderful seasonal... More

Fort Hunter was originally a fort protecting the Harrisburg area from indian raids at the Susquehanna narrows and later the homestead and mansion for the 19th centuries leading families in Harrisburg. This may be the best picnic spot in the Harrisburg area and a great place to see the river, the mountain gaps and the Rockville Bridge (longest stone arch... More

We visited Fort Hunter on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in November. We are from the area but never took the time to walk around the mansion grounds at Fort Hunter or take the mansion tour. The grounds and the mansion were beautiful! We inquired about a tour of the mansion by walking directly up to the front door of the... More
