If you go, allow plenty of time to look around. There are volunteers there who will answer you questions and tell great stories. We could have easily spent several hours exploring this place; we would love to go back! The only thing I disliked about this place was that we could not stay longer. We had tickets for the Sight... While visiting Amish country in Lancaster, PA. the railroad museum is an absolute must see even if you are not a railroad enthusiast. All different types of rail cars are on view and many can be toured with a guide stationed on the train. We took our two grand-kids and they loved it as did we. Extremely reasonably priced. Trains... This outstanding museum houses lots of great steam engines, freight and passenger cars that provided service on the great railroads of Pennsylvania. If you love trains this place is a must visit.

The museum has a great introduction of the evolution and impact of railroads in Pennsylvania. Once you walk through the photos and explanations, you get to see the restored engines, cars and recreations of workers operating and maintaining the rail system. We enjoyed viewing and boarding several engines and cars, seeing the wonder of the machinery and the beauty of... More

The good news is that we visited on a Monday morning and there were few people there. The bad news is that there were few staff there also and we did not receive any kind of orientation other than the short video. We were able to find our way and realized toward the end that we would indeed be able... More

We were a bit disappointed that after spending so much to enter the museum, there was not as many trains that were open to climbing in and walking around as we'd hoped. Perhaps our expectations were simply higher than what they should have been, as we did arrive after lunch and missed the last train ride by a few minutes... More

The recommendation was 'minimum of an hour'. We stayed for more than three, and didn't even get to the second floor gallery. There are dozens of train cars inside the massive building, and another dozen or more in the 'yard'. Fascinating stories of rail travel, railroaders, and the corporations that boomed in the 1800's and busted in the mid 1900's,... More

Helpful employees and Docents .Just so much fun to see all the different engines. It was even more fun to watch the little ones who were so excited by the "big trains".

How can climbing on an old steam engine be bad? There is so much to see, and they have special events. My wife and I want to check out the WWII night.

Went last week with wife, 3 year old son (who loves trains) and 18 month old daughter. We were there for about 3 hours. Both kids had a blast looking at the real trains, exploring outside and playing in the kids area. Its just very impressive museum for anyone to see and experience. I would recommend it to anyone with... More
