Settler's Rock is just a small historic marker but it is found at the very northern tip of Block Island, a spectacular natural spot where you walk along the rocky beach to the North Light. Great place for star-gazing at night and to see the flickering lights from the mainland. Beautiful.

Parking is adequate, with freshwater Sachem Pond on one side, and Settler's Rock and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. Tidepools are fun to explore at low tide, and the parking area also serves the trail along the beach to the North Lighthouse. If you are driving to the northern point of the island just to see settlers rock don't bother. It's a headstone with the names of the 16 founding families. The view is nice. You are as close to the North light as you are going to get without hiking out there. But, if you are only to see the Rick,... More

It's a rock with the settlers name, no big deal. No history, just names. The cool part is the beach next to it has this total zen thing going on where people stack rocks. Pretty cool to see.

Settler's Rock is just an ordinary rock with the names of the first 16 families that settled on Block Island. This is not including the Native Americans that were already living there of course. These families were from Boston and landed on Block in 1661 and established themselves on the Island. The rock is a piece of history, but in... More
