The beauty of the statehouse and grounds makes me proud to be a Carolinian. I love going when the trees and flowers are in bloom.
Visited the State House when it first re-opened after a major remodel. Absolutely gorgeous architecture! Worth a good long look by anybody who enjoys this kind of place.
As others have already stated, it is a beautiful building. The plaster work, wallpaper and other craftsmanship are outstanding. For those who like stained glass, the pieces are remarkable. The tour is worth taking.
The grounds are nicely kept...However the controversy surrounding the Confederate Flag puts a damper on the experience.
Nice piece of Columbia history minus the confederate flag. The Columbia downtown area would be an awesome place to visit for a cultural or historical excursion.
The state house is a beautiful building, Thr architecture is very cool. I would recommend having a look at it if you are in the area. Nice surrounding area too.
The building was closed actually, but we spent there a great time. We took some nice photos, and we walked around in the surrounding park where some statues and beautiful plants can be found. It is a short but highly recommended program in Columbia!
Every once in awhile the State House in Columbia will offer free tours on the weekends. I learner about it on Twitter and I was very happy I took the drive there. They show you a short historical video on the history of the building and then you take a short walking tour with a tour guide who shows you...

First off we viewed an excellent film on the history of the capital building. We then walked around with a tour brochure since no tours were available that day. Since it was just before Christmas we pretty much had the place to ourselves so it was nice to wander around and admire the architectural features and history of the building....
