Besides some minimal hiking and some picnicking , there's not much to do and see here except the lonely mountain rising from the flat territory around and the surrounding homes.

I love House Mountain. It's probably my absolute favorite hike in Knoxville! There are trails for the beginner all the way to the most advanced climber.
Hiked "My Mountain" for the 89th time today! Eleven more until the 100th! Google "Appalachian Irishman," for photos and blogs about my hikes. You'll find other blogs too. House Mountain Park is gorgeous and offers great views from its many trails. The countryside is a patchwork of colors in the fall and verdant in the spring. Great area for getting away from city life.
The people who use House Mountain refuse to stay on trails! They forge their own causing people running into each other, erosion of hills, and a perfect display of true ignorance!
My daughter and I hiked two of the trails. They were challenging but we had a great time. Close to home. Easy to find.
While House Mountain definitely isn't what you'll experience in GSMNP it is a great opportunity to get out for a nice hike with some beautiful scenic views without having to drive as far as the national park. Parts of the hike are steep and rocky but for experienced hikers the trails won't be overly challenging. Be sure to dress appropriately...
