This is the third beach on Galveston my family and I have visited in the past three years. I chose this one because, after two previous attempts at finding a clean beach, I finally consulted a number of travel websites to find the consensus "best". All I can say is ... "Best"? Not so much. There is a huge amount...

I do recommend wearing water shoes. We took that advice from a friend who lives around that area and glad we did since there was quite a bit of seaweed--but to us it was not overwhelming--and some broken glass. The water was great! No one was collecting money to park though although there was supposed to be a fee.

When I went many years ago in May, it was before most schools in Texas get out for the summer. We thought that we would be able to have a nice relaxing beach visit. WRONG. The beach was so crowded, we ended up driving back across the island to one of the beaches near the Seawall where there was practically...

Although it was a fairly nice day, the beach was almost empty when we arrived around 10. A lifeguard was on duty and the beach chairs and umbrellas were already set up.
THey did not charge for parking although it is ussually $8. The chairs and umbrellas were a different story. $30 for two canvas chairs and a modest umbrella....

We didn't use the building at all so I can't comment on that. I give it four stars because...
we went on a weekday and there was hardly anyone there, it was nice to have some privacy. We didn't have to pay for parking, no one was at the ticket booth (I'm thinking they only collect money during the busy...

We are visiting Houston and wanted to spend an afternoon at the beach. We went to Stewart because it seemed family friendly from the TripAdvisor reviews. All four of our kids (ages 11, 6, 4, & 2) had a great time playing in the sand and splashing in the water. It was a great area--mostly families, no obscene dressing, no...

We went to Stewart Beach on June 2, 2011. I would think that with all of the people who pay $8 to park they could at least have an employee to tidy up the restrooms. There was no air conditioning and very little ventilation in the restroom/changing rooms. The toilets and floors were filthy and downright disgusting. The place smelled...

It's not the most beautiful beach or water, but my daughter has never been to a beach. She loved it. We brought a canopy to put up, so we drove further northeast on the beach (after entering - paid $8). It says no tents or shelters, but drive past the area with the rental umbrellas, and you can put up...
