This tour is bus oriented. Our tour guide was fantastic but would assume without the right guide it may not be all that exciting. This motor coach style tour takes you through the Norfolk Naval Base while the guide points out areas of interest. During our tour we were able to see an ample amount of active duty Naval ships... This is NOT a boat tour. This is a bus tour of the majority of the naval base. It's 45 min and costs $10 for adults. Adults will need ID. Tours depart from a visitor center on Hampton rd near gate 5 of the base. You'll go through some security and board a motor coach style tour bus. A navy... More

If you have a group go to the visitors center and pick up a volunteer guide. These guys know their stuff and are eager to share it with you. Bring paper and pencil because you'll learn things and won't be able to remember it all unless you write it down.

I work on the base. I go there every work day. It has several gyms, several restarants, a gas station, a garage, a church, commissary, and exchange. The military should like it alot. Lots of people go there.

28 March As we pulled into Norfolk the GPS took us right to our hotel (Norfolk Waterside Marriott). They put us up on the 21 First floor (UMM nice view of the river at $130 a night). Tom chose this location for our two-night stay because it appeared to be the closest to the Nauticus museum (Home of the USS... More

We were fortunate to have a private tour of the base since we were the only two signed up for the 12:30pm us tour. The quartermaster guide was informative and friendly. While you can't get off the bus, you do drive by the vessels in port as well as a display of naval aircraft.

A bit cold for my taste... Norfolk Naval Base is well-equipped with over three athletic facilites, big NEX & commissary complex, and other MWR attractions (movies, sailing, etc.). Traffic however, is not so pleasant - dreadful tunnel driving.

My husband and I went to the Navel Base two out of our three days in Norfolk, Va. We toured the museum and the battle ship Wisconsin, we even grabbed a bite to eat in the deli. We enjoyed our trip so much we went back the next day and made a stop buy the gift shop as well.

We were priviledged to be given a tour of the Norfolk Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia. The naval bolsen's mate that gave the narrated tour did an excellent job and added a great deal of humorous character to her presentation. We were not allowed to take photos of the shipyard and vessels in port, but could when we were away... More

Definitely the best part of the trip to Norfolk, well, besides the best tour, was this tour of the base. It was run out of the visitor center near gate 5. The tour was about an hour and it went through the base, all the while describing the history, buildings, and ships on the base. The staff was great to... More
