I like very close to great hiking trails in this area. It's beautiful. Peaceful, quiet and hopefully some wildlife.
This gorgeous little valley laced with hiking trails and a five-star small river lies eight miles north of downtown, well away from I-90 and the South Hill intelligentsia, which is why few pay it much attention. All the better for you. It's the best hiking/biking/floating near Spokane.
