This museum does not charge an admission fee. It took me an hour and a half to go through it but easily could of spent more time in it. The parking rates in the nearby parking lot is very reasonable. Only 25 cents per half hour.

My wife and I went to see the capitol, which turned out to be just another capitol building, and stopped in at the museum soley because it was on the way back to our car...What Luck! Fantastic museum! Not just the history of West Virginia but of the US. And interesting because the history is presented along a time line... More

If you are in Charleston and want to see the history of the State of West Virginia, this is a must stop. The Museum was redone in recent years and a fantastic job was done. I have been at least four times and find something new each time. The last time I went, I saw the death certificate for Hank... More

This is a very nice State Museum in a beautiful building. I learned a lot about West Virginia that I did not know.

Being a native West Virginia I had never taken the time to visit the museum. I was impressed with the displays, stories and artifacts of the state's history. A good time spent learning about the history of the people of WV.

I took my wife to kill some time while in Charleston recently and was surprised to find the old cultural museum transformed into the new History Museum. We were blown away by the time, effort, and thought that went into designing the museum. We took an hour to blow through the museum but could go back multiple times to pick... More

We were here about 1 1/2 hours and it was quite enjoyable. Especially nice that it is free - that way you don't feel like you have to spend a certain amount if time to get your moneys worth. Exhibits are divided into flowing rooms and it basically starts hundreds of millions of years ago and goes up to the... More

I would recommend the State Museum to anyone visiting Charleston. It included a wealth of material on the state's history and culture, both the good and the bad, and well organized. And you can't beat the price. One problem is that despite signs to the contrary you can't park in the Capitol Complex. We found parking on the street a... More

The museum had a little bit of everything to hold everyone's attention. It was well organized. We loved the one area that looked like you were walking through a coal mine. While walking through each section you can hear a narrator over head describing the particular time periods and events. We really appreciated that as we were short on time... More
