Very well organised trip with informative headset to enable you to walk round and discover the history of the prison and inmates. We spent a morning there, boats back were every 30 mins. Depending when you go some bits of the grounds will be closed due to bird nesting.

This was the second time my husband and I visited Alcatraz. The first was many years ago, when we had an actual tour guide who took us around as a group. This time, the tour comes with an audio guide. I didn't think I would like it as well, but it turns out, I liked it a lot better. The... More

The audio guide tour, included in the price of the visit, is very well done and interesting. A must to see place.

alcatraz island is absolutly amazing...it is incredible the history. such a great location for a secure prison..it is really too bad it isn't in service still. I think the coolest part of the self guided tour was the part on the cement in the cell house where the marines dropped grenades in to fight back the prison riot. you can... More

When getting inside the prison I could FEEL the hopelessness. This place has a cold, dead end feel. Definitely somewhere you wouldn't want to be. I loved the old photos and the audio tour was great. I feel this is a piece of US History that can't be missed while in SF.

Really good but book early, online if possible. We booked on Thursday lunch for ferry leaving at 12:30pm on Friday. By the time we were getting on the ferry on Friday, they were booking for Sunday Well worth the wait, audio tour very good, lots to do, allow at least 2 to 3 hours

Make reservations ahead of time, to avoid the disappointment of not being able to get a ticket, the entire day. Go early and give yourself time to go through the audio tour and look at things at your pace. You get a good feel for how cold the prison was, when you are inside of it. While you are there... More

This is a must if you are visiting San Francisco. We took the night tour which has more on offer that the day tours including night time lock down in which you experience the cell lock down as the inmates would. Very real and scary... be warned even if the day is warm and sunny it get very chiily out... More
