- mrsammy7Herzliya, Israel8 contributionsSan Francico - A fun and interesting city!Always a fun and interesting city to visit. Love the Haight-Ashbury area. I like Golden Gate Park and the waterfront (Pier 39+) area. Just discovered the Palace of Fine Arts and it's a don't miss place to visit. You'll only need one hour. Cross the Golden Gate Bridge either by car, bike or walking. The view from the other side is special. A drive down Lombard Street is different and fun.Visited July 2023Written 3 August 2023
- Kimberly9 contributionsClassy inside and LONG walk from parkingAwesome place to meander around. Lots of foodie cafes/stores inside and many were wonderful smells and tasting. I went during the week and there weren’t many vendors outside peddling their junk wares. Thank goodness. Inside was very clean and classy. Even a lady had her Falcon (?) on her arm inside shoppers that was neat. Long ways to park from entrance. Plan on walking A LOT!!!!Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 9 August 2023
- Irene IMajorca, Spain33 contributionsMarket place delightApart from being the view point where I saw in the ‘Bells’ for New Year 7 years ago , and watched the awesome firework display (and it really was awesome. A magnificent 15 minute display of pyrotechnical wizardry.) the Ferry terminal is also home to a fantastic artisan market place. There are all sorts of items on sale from food and drink to trinkets, books and one off crafts. The food stalls are amazing - and expensive. (But then, everything in SF is expensive.) There is a great buzz about the place and a wonderful atmosphere. The whole ferry area is a must visit, from Pier 1 right along to Fisherman’s Wharf at Pier 45. The walk from end to end can take an hour but have a coffee and snack at the marketplace and then stroll to the other end and have a bread bowl filled with clam chowder. Another touristy must do.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 August 2023

Chose the Mexican stand with the massive queue for breakfast. Outstanding Chilaquiles with scrambled eggs for breakfast. Could have spent a few hours here but my waistline wouldn’t allow it.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 October 2023
- ScottSan Francisco, California5,325 contributionsMust see of courseAlways a cool part of San Francisco for tourists and locals. You can grab an amazing empanada, by your clipper card at the Bay crossings shop, visit one of the best mushroom themed stores in California, and board your ferry here. You'll find public bathrooms. Unfortunately, I'm not thrilled with the coffee choices at the ferry building. Blue bottle is way overpriced and they don't even have non-fat milk.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 11 November 2023

I really enjoyed the Marketplace. The street vendors were just as interesting as the vendors with the storefront. You can purchase honey, wine clothing, oils, and more in this market place collective

The ferry building marketplace has some fixed shops inside the building but mostly it’s the external traders. Normally 4 days a week.

Online made the Ferry Building seem like a place we just had to visit. We were very disappointed as there where not as many shops and things to see as you are led to believe online.

Try Tadich Grill on California St. Not too far away and one of the oldest and best restaurants in the city, known for seafood, but especially for Dungeness crab and their seafood chowder.

Have a 12 pm Alcatraz tour booked. What. Can I do before nearby to get some sights in?

Ferry building is ok, don't go early, stuff doesn't open early there. There are eateries and they are pretty good and their is a boutique grocery store with lots of neat things . Blue bottle is there but it's expensive and frankly it's not the wow everyone was making it out to be, it's a coffee shop. If your looking for touristy stuff pier 39 has all that and seals to keep you busy and it's all within walking distance of the ferries. Fisherman's wharf is also not far from the ferries. I was just there a few weeks ago and the walk between piers is pretty easy and lots to see including souvenir shops.

How far a walk is it from the Ferry building to Pier 33 to get the Alcatraz ferry and about how long would it take to walk?

20-30 minutes. As an alternative you can hop on one of the old antique street cars that take you right there.

I recommend you park & walk or take the cable car for ease to Ferry Building. Trying to park close will be hectic & expensive.

We are returning to Pier 27 San Francisco at the end of a cruise and our flight isn't until late afternoon. Does anyone know if we can leave our luggage anywhere and suggest something to do before going to the airport?

Check with the cruise line's concierge, they will usually hold your bags for a short time - much as a hotel would. you will disembark equally close to Fisherman's Terminal (Pier 39, sea lions, gift shops, great views of water) or the Ferry Building (Pier1, restaurants, higher-end shops and restaurants). Take a pedi-cab for about $10, Historic Street Car $2.25, or cab/Uber. Walk if you like, very nice promenade along the entire waterfront.
