We happened to be in SF for a few weeks during opera season and nothing would do but to take in the current performance (Rigoletto). If only we had known, we would have come early and dined at one of the several venues provided within the opera house. We had good seats (selected on line) and thoroughly enjoyed the very...

Wonderful music. Terrific performances. Staging and costumes sometimes so painfully an attempt to "be different" that it detracts from the music.
The Opera House is grand, in the best sense. Gilded walls and massive chandeliers. Marble and cherubs and grand staircases. Ladies in evening gowns. It helps that the productions are usually spine tingling with hundreds in the cast and a brilliant orchestra. This is an unforgettable night out. (restaurant downstairs is pretty good too...)
I love the opera. My husbamd usually doesn't. Fortunately, the opera was good and the building is nothing short of amazing. Hopefully, I can get him to go again.
Usually visit at least once a year for an SF Opera fix. Love the theater and production quality of the SF Opera. A great, romantic weekend get away. I prefer the front Mezzanine seating.
Saw Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia with Renee Fleming and found it to be a very nice house and, if I lived in SF, a considerable part of my disposable income would find its way there.

Not only does SF have great opera, but the opera house itself is great. They refurbished it all now probably 5-10 years ago, and it made a great difference to the "old dame." I love opera, particularly like to go during matinee tho because sometimes I close my eyes "just to hear the music better" during late performances and...zzzzzzzz
WOW. This building is so beautiful, and combined with opera, the experience fills your heart with song and beauty. Some hotels offer a limo-opera-dinner combo, so check them out and enjoy a fantastic experience.
