We stumbled across Filbert Steps accidentally after visiting Coit Tower. Gorgeous gardens and we even got to see the parrots. Worth a visit. Probably easier to walk down as we did than up. :-)

After a long day of walking around, we were looking for a direct route back to our rental home on Telegraph Hill, when we happily found these steps. We didn't know until after we got home and saw on Trip Advisor that they were the Filbert Steps. We would not recommend them as a destination, but if you want to...

You are in the middle of a huge city, but you can hear the birds, see tropical flowers, look at cute but million dollar houses and I even saw some hummingbirds. All you have to do is take the Filbert Steps up to Coit Tower. Don't miss Napier Lane. I was doubting if I would put this review here because...

Filbert street with its little gardens, blooming flowers, trees that create enclosed tunnels and an atmosphere that you are miles away from the buildings, busy streets and people is a treat for any traveler to San Francisco.
Unfortunately one of the gardens has been going through landscaping overhaul and the result is wide opened field that just does not fit...

I would love too live in one of the houses off the steps it's such a pretty place, its so unusual. It's not that bad a walk up just take your time and the views are lovely. Coit tower at the top too you can see for miles up there.
To some, this might be just a bunch of steps. But take it in, and you'll notice increasingly dramatic views of the bay area, as well as nice little houses on either side of the steps. It's springtime, so the flowers and plants smell incredible!!! If you're going up to visit Coit Tower, you need to take the steps!
We have been walking the Filbert stairs for years. On a warm day the fragrant roses and gardens, cool shade and bright greens and yellows fool your mind into letting you think you are in a fairy tale rather than above the Embarcadero! It's a pretty easy stroll of stairs as stairs go. We don't see the parrots as often...

The views have to be seen!!! The work out your legs will get from all the steps will help work out the meal you just had in North Beach, China town or Fisherman wharf. Its like steps to heave; the views are so pristine.
We walked DOWN the Filbert Steps after visiting Coit Tower. It was so fun to see the gardens and houses along this steep residential area. It was really fun and the huge white calla lilies growing freely in little gardens were so pretty! I had hoped to see the parrots people speak of that perch in the trees along the...

So we made this exhausting jaunt up these stairs, after climbing the huge hill to get to the stairs mind you, JUST in search of the 'parrots'.....never saw or heard a one. Now at least at the top, we did enjoy the Coit tower with its INCREDIABLE views of EVERYTHING. But next time, we will just take the bus that...
