Such an inspiring area for artists and art lovers. I absolutely LOVED being able to watch the artists work. This is a must-see area for those visiting Asheville for their "artsy" community!

Nice 1/2 day trip especially if you walk from downtown Asheville. I would recommend taking a stroll to the River Arts district on a nice day.
The River Arts District of Asheville is a great place to meet artist of many types! You get to tour their studios, ask questions, enjoy the beautiful old buildings finding new life. There are some great restaurants in the area also. It's a wonderful way to spend a day!
The River Arts District is a revival of the old warehouse areas of the French Broad River area. The studios, galleries, artists, restaurants, brewery, etc., are all spread out in unique buildings and locations. If you want to really see it all, expect to spend the day.
Artists are happy to talk as you watch them create and are more...

We went on a Saturday and had a blast walking around to all the shops. We stopped at probably close to 15 shops and there were definitely some gems among the shops we went to. We planned on going on Saturday because that's when most of the shops are open. If you go to riverartsdistrict.com you can see who is...

My husband was so excited to visit this area, but mainly we ended up disappointed. First, it is so hard to locate each place, and then when you finally do, half or more are closed, or you need an appointment. One artist said that most are not that interested in visitors because they mainly just like to be in their...

Lots of people showing their passion for art in this less obvious part of town. Beautiful architecture.
Every medium of art you can imagine and surprisingly great food choices from White Duck Tacos to 12 Bones BBQ, where even Obama had to come and eat ribs before leaving the area!
Some talented people. There is some difficult walking home over rough sidewalks though. You have to drive from studio to studio for the most part. If you're in Asheville it's a fun place to spend a couple of hours.
There are too many studios to visit in just one weekend. So, plan accordingly and stop by those of the most interest to you. Filled with artist's studios. restaurants, entertainment venues, etc. and just minutes from downtown, the RAD is a must-see when you're in the area.
