Its an interesting museum if it was in the middle of Dakota. However there are a lot better museums in NYC. If you have limited time, go elsewhere.

Excellent German Austrian Museum. A but north of the Met (and open on Mondays when the Met is closed). More than a nice museum, a cine club below (I watched Fanny and Alexander) and a cafe on the ground floor.
Visited in June 2013 when a special exhibition of furniture, glass and silver ware was taking place. Fascinating to see the links with Art Nouveau and Charles Renee Macintosh. Highlight is several Klimt paintings, plus some drawings.
Helpful staff with one security guard on the third floor very passionate about the art and clearly impressed by the skill of the...

Love this quiet gallery - Austrian art and the café for breakfast or tea is a real must and a great treat.
Absolutely wonderful Museum dedicated to Austrian and German art of the early 20th century. The new exhibit of furniture, silver, glass and art was extraordinary. Had lunch in the lower level cafe and enjoyed it very much. On corner of Fifth and 86th close to the Met and perfect for different experience on either end of a visit there especially...

small museum dedicated to end of siecle vienna. the 19th of course . the collection is very good with some german expressionist also. the highlight is the woman in gold by klimt. there is also a room dedicated to bauhaus, gropius and mies van rohe.don't miss the restaurant with a choice of sausages and their selection of austrian beers.
When traveling to New York City don't miss this little museum at 88th St. and 5th Avenue. It offers a superb collection of German and Austrian art from impressionists to expressionists. The star of the collection is Gustav Klimt's Frau Bach Bauer, but along with this showy golden painting are little gems by Egan Scheele, Oscar Kokoschka and other Austrian...

Treat yourself to strudel and cream or a luncheon enjoy It feels very European and kids will enjoy the fancy elegant digs. The museum has lovely exhibits but I believe they don't let children upstairs under the age of 12 or 13. My 10 year old very mature was sorry to miss the exhibit.
Very good unique collection of Austrian art which changes often. Accompanied by great restaurant with very good Austrian food.
This is a wonderul museum - small with a big presence. The Kandinskys and Klimt paintings were my favorite but there were so many other well known European artists as well. The museum opens at 11:00, but go early and have a wonderful breakfast. The cafe opens at 9:00. A beautiful cafe reminiscent of an old world restaurant.
