Views, people-watching, fabulous gardens, places to sit, to eat, to talk, to walk. Ok, so you do have to go all the way to the west. You won't be sorry --unless you choose a very rainy day and don't have protection from the weather. But if that happens, duck into Chelsea Market for a treat.

The High Line in Chelsea is a beautifully managed walkway that just lets you escape the city concrete for a little bit. It also opens the door a bit to check out Chelsea, which is becoming my favourite part of the city. I took a tour with Manhattan Walking Tours and we started at the entrance at 30th St and... More

It was a very windy day but we all enjoyed the walk. Every 100 yards there was something new to see. It is very nicely done and reasonably safe for young kids too.

Try and fit this in if you get the chance, follow lunch in Grennwich village with a slow walk. Great for people watching.

What a great way to rehabilitate an old railway track! We spent over an hour walking the whole length of this elevated walkway, enjoying the views and the scenery. Being in NY City at the beginning of May also meant that we got to see many trees in bloom. My only concern would be that it might get very crowded... More

While you are walking the High-Line which is a reuse of an old elevated rail track, you continuously say to yourself- why don't other cities do this. It is a remarkable use of space, clean, impeccably planed wit interested use of grassy areas and different elevations. Do yourselves a favor and enjoy this great walk, preferably in the spring.

Since it opened, I have brought a bunch of people here because I always find it great! It's really pretty and you can still see the old train tracks, which I think is cool. It gets pretty crowded, but it's still a nice place to visit. It's great to walk the whole stretch, but I also find it a cool... More

What an amazing park! We love it! It can get busy but there are several areas to sit and people watch and take in the views.

The elegant re-use of an elevated commercial railway is a wonderful experience. You witness the City from a walkway 3 stories in the air and it gives you a whole new perspective on streetscapes, skylines and Hudson views. Good for all ages. Accessible by elevator at various locations.
