This is a excellent way to learn the history of the city and the individuals who have shaped the city. Make sure you stop in the office and get the CD for the car. It provides a excellent self guided tour. The cemetery sits on a high which provides excellent views. It is still a active cemetery so be prepared.... More

I am not a big fan of cemeteries in general, but this one is unique. They consistently offer tours of the graves of the famous and interesting people buried there, which inlcude the Wright Brothers, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Erma Bombeck, but once a year they offer a tour where volunteers dress up and portray some of the interesting people... great views of downtown Dayton, charming setting. no need to get out of the car, but plenty of places to get out and enjoy the scenery if you want to. local favorite. they also have maps that can show you where some of the famous graves are.

This is an old cemetery where you can pay your respects at the graves of Paul L. Dunbar, The Wright Brothers (and sister and parents) and Erma Bombeck. It has a lot of character and exudes peace.

So it might sound morbid, but this cemetary is the most beautiful cemetary I have ever been to. It is so old and the architecture is astoundingly beautiful. It is a massive place with hills.

Wright Brothers, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Erma Lazarus are among the famous Daytonians buried here. Here are humble graves of these three famous Americans, and the huge (and somewhat gaudy) mausoleums of the Dayton Rich Society. Anyone from the Dayton area will see names of famous and familiar Dayton streets, businesses, and landmarks written on tombstones. The other cemetery I... More

I live near Woodland Cemetery and I have often walked through it. It's potentially a lovely place, and the graves of many famous people--the Wright Brothers, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Erma Lazarus--are there. But the impressive historical and arboreal features are compromised by a sad lack of attention and upkeep. As an arboretum, Woodland's inner grounds are very nice. Visitors will... More

I visited this cemetary about 10 years ago and loved it so much I purchased plots. It is especially beautiful in the fall and I recommend the tours.
