If you are not a fitness fanatic, and don't fancy buying walking shoes and all of the other stuff that 'serious' walkers have, then this is the place for you! It's a terrific walk - not totally flat and with some incline - but you can certainly walk as far as you want, with not much difficulty, in simple trainers... More

Golden Canyon is situated inside Death Valley Park. It is a fairly short walk and out. However, it can get mighty hot. We went in the late afternoon--lovely time. Also, you can easily cut your walk shorter by just going about 1/4 of the way in--that's really the most amazing part--great views, etc.

While driving through Death Valley, stop and take a break, and hike up Golden Canyon. You won't be disappointed.

Interpretive brochure helps you understand geology of the region. Varied types and colors of rock formations. Trail in wash but easy walking. We continued on past end of canyon up to Manly Beacon and down Gower Gulch.

We took the Geology Ranger talk which made it slightly more interesting (although he talked way past the point at which the audience was still paying attention), otherwise it's pretty dull--lots of loose dirt and a wash.

Compare to other canyons this one had different color rock formation specially made with Borax. Very closer to badwater valley so if you go top of any canyon, you can have nice view of bad water

This beautiful hike offers many little side adventures up crevices and creek beds. A great look at the variety of rock formations in Death Valley.

The Golden Canyon hike is a very good hike. After a mile or so you have the option to continue on a trail to Zabriskie Point or Gower Gulch. This is also an interesting trail, as long as you are climbing. There are good views from above. The Gower Gulch Loop eventually becomes a separate trail that descends into a... More

The canyon itself was magnificent and the "amphitheatre" at the end is awe inspiring. We then hiked over the top the Zabriskie Point and this was the high point of my trip to Death Valley. The views were spectacular and the hike invigorating.
