Our biggest mistake. This prevented us from trying ALL the great looking and smelling food offered here.
We did get some stuff for the road and our kids (and yes we had some cookies, Lemonade and beef jerky), but I would have tried any one of a dozen sandwiches offered, jams, jellies, cookies, pastry, Ice Cream, Donuts and so much...

You have to visit the Reading Terminal Market - everything from German sausage, to Amish food. Grab some food, sit and watch the people. Almost any produce you can imagine is on sell here, but it's the overall atmosphere that makes it worth the visit.
What a fun place to visit - row upon row of stalls selling every type of food you can imagine., both prepared as well as fresh. It's really hard to choose, but you can't go wrong. The Reading Terminal Market is always bustling with energy,
This is just a fun place with many dining options plus raw food for sale. First tour the place to decide what you want and then return to your favorite stalls and order your meal. A great place to snack, since some items are small. Generally large portions otherwise. Eat on communal picnic tables. Be advised that at mealtimes it...

Yum. Yum. Yum. Terminal Market is bustling with energy and life. We thoroughly enjoyed a meal here for Philly Cheesesteaks of course (and crepes for dessert)..so much in fact, that we revisited the market again the next day for Chinese food at Sang Chee's (I think I got that right) and ice cream at Basett's. Excellent. The next day we...

Each time I am in Philadelphia, I am sure to stop by Reading Terminal several times. This time we bought amazing cannolis at Termini Brothers. The ricotta version was incredible. They also tossed in a tasty almond cookie for the walk home. There are many good stalls in the terminal. It is always hard to pick which to stop at.
I visit Philadelphia about once a year because my son lives here. I go to the Reading Market each time because this place is a treat for sight, smell as well as taste. No matter what your favorite food is, you will find it here.
A highlight this trip was venturing into the Tubby Olive ( its in the back)...

We especially enjoyed Herschel's Deli, Bassets Ice Cream, and the Dutch Eating Place. At the Dutch eating place you have to order the apple dumpling. It's life changing.
A trip to Philadelphia is not complete without a visit to the Reading Terminal. Lots of little gourmet food shops, produce markets, and restaurants. Many food shops are Amish owned and run. Great place for late breakfast or lunch. It's great fun to look around, check out the food and then decide what to get to eat. This use to...
