My daughter loves this zoo and asks to go back every year. It is close enough that we can visit for half a day and the exhibits are always being updated/upgraded.

From childhood to adulthood, this zoo has never disappointed. Great for the kids to see animals up close wothout having to travel far from home.
I visited turtle back zoo on an weekend early May, 2013. It was a nice day, full of fun. We enjoyed the sun, the animals who were on display, my five year old son took the Carousel ride, the pony ride, petted the sheep and the toy train ride through the woods. At the end of the day, he even...

I go here every year on school class trips. The children and adults enjoy likewise.. Not really big but they are expanding..
I have been to Turtle Back Zoo twice with my little ones and both times were enjoyable. My family and I always enjoy going to the Bronx Zoo. But it is nice to head to a smaller zoo for little kids that is not overwhelming. It has the right amount of rides such as a miniature train, slide and carousel....

Ok, so, it's not the biggest zoo...
+ Very close to our home

+ great for little kids with tired feet
+ perfect for an hour or two walk
+ free train ride
- Not that big
- Not that many animals
But really - what do you want from a simple zoo?...

This place has been transformed in recent years. So proud that is is considered the best zoo in the state. It is a true gem and a credit to Essex County. Can't wait to see the new sea otter exhibit in a few weeks!
I enjoyed this zoo. It's large but not too large. it wasn't that crowded and my daughter who was three had a great day here.
This "Zoo" could be seen in less than an hour. The children I went with were expecting a zoo with all sorts of animals, and they didn't get that. They were uninterested in seeing 10 animals that were spread out. The train ride was uneventful, and pretty fast for children- wear a jacket during it.
Went here today after hearing about it for many years.....we were TOTALLY disappointed! Not much to see, just a lot of walking with hardly any animals or anything interesting to see.
