This is an excellent place to learn more about the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The replica of the fort is very interesting and you get a real idea of what it might have been like to spend the winter there. The visitor's center has two really great films about Lewis and Clark.

On Tuesday, May 13, my wife and I headed for Seaside, OR to enjoy a couple of days at the coast thanks to our daughters. We arrived about 1 PM, checked and decided to take advantage of a lovely, sunny afternoon by driving a few miles to Canon Beach in order to stroll along the shore. Alas, the next morning... More

We live here and get the opportunity to take friends and family about our part of the state, I always go on the Ft. Clatsop and Columbia River Maritime Museum parts. Great attractions for the whole family, rich in culture and information.....

We enjoyed this stop. It was raining just like it was most of the time when Lewis and Clark Expedition stayed there. The rain let up enough for us to look at the rebuilt fort which was fun. The two movies in the visitors center were very good. We also liked the little gift shop, clean restrooms and the information... More

We stopped here during spring break and enjoyed our visit. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We decided to fork over $80 to get an annual national parks pass otherwise it costs $3 per adult to get in. The movie is good and there is a nice exhibition of artifacts from the time of Lewis and Clark in the... More

We were in Astoria for spring break & our daughter mentioned she was studying the Lewis & Clark expedition in school. So, we decided to stop here so she can do a little report to share at school. She found the reproduction of the fort very interesting. We walked the paths down to the canoe landing then headed in for... More

Walking trails abound when you tour this wonderful site. The trails lead you to different stops in this history lesson on the time of Lewis and Clark. There was a reenactment when we were there with great actors who really got the guests involved. We ventured off to the trail across the road which was challenging and afforded wonderful scenery... his is a small fort set among towering trees in a rainy, foggy place. Keep in mind that the original was built as an overwintering spot before the Lewis & Clark expedition headed back east to report its findings to an awaiting Thomas Jefferson. So it shouldn’t be surprising that it’s not really comparable to other larger, wooden western forts,... More

Any one who has read or knows anything about Lew is & Clark should visit the Fort. It's where they ended their westbound journey and spent a miserable winter. You won't know how miserable until you visit in the off season. We put it on our list every other visit to Astoria because the docents change and have different stories... More

This was a great way to spend 90 minutes. It's interesting seeing the fort (an authentic seeming reconstruction) and imagining living there over a winter, after walking and canoeing across the continent. There are short or long easy-strolling hike/walks around the area. In the visitors center, both of the short movies are worth watching to get a feel for the... More
