The site is well done and an easy walk to see the restored structures and learn about life at a military post in the mid to late 1800's. I was surprised at how nice the living structures were for the officers. The information signs at each restored building are easy to read and understand. The site requires a lot of... More

Fort Davis was not on our agenda, but we're sure glad we made the stop. We spent about 3 hours walking around the grounds and exploring the hillsides around the Fort. The renovations of the houses and particularly the Hospital were very well done. There's a lot of history there, and they've done a great job with their displays and... More

as with most ruins, there is a lot left to the imagination. the reconstructed buildings give you a real life look. several of the buildings have been restored. the others are just the foundation blocks which give you no indication what the building contained. it is worth seeing, if you want a bit of history.

Amazing to think how the fort was established in this vast desolate area. The fort has recently been through some renovations. Very clean, full of information, staff is very helpful and very cool place to visit.

Make sure you attend the video. Seeing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in a cowboy hat is a hoot. The video gives a good history of what happened at the post. Bring your walking shoes. You have to stay on the marked paths. Buildings which are open to the public are representative of the era. At a leisurely pace, it took us 1.5... More

Well documented historical site ~ great preserved buildings and tools of the era. Beautiful mountain setting. A very good place to spend a few hours to learn of the hardships endured at the fort. Don't forget to check out the hospital ~ very interesting to learn of the ailments, diseases and treatments used during that time. Free use of golf... More

The fort is well kept and well displayed. The fact that only a few others were visiting added to the atmosphere. The walking paths into the hills behind the fort are a treat too -- nothing too difficult and great views.

Allow yourself plenty of time to tour the fort. Quite expansive. The fort really allows visitors to walk back in time.

Re-creations of living conditions for officers, enlisted, hospital, and commissary. Just a wonderful presentation of life at the time the fort was active.

Old Fort nestled against the Davis mountains. nice Visitor Center, and hiking trail next door. The Ranger was very knowledgeable.
