A gem and a must go if you like off the beaten path museums. Lots of fun and a fantastic gift shop. Easy walk from waterfront area in downtown.

What an incredible place. The art is fantastic and varied (and apparently changes often), running the gamut from funny to tragic, but my favourite part was reading the often bittersweet backstories of the creators. Disliked nothing, everything was great. Especially liked the embroideries/tapestries by the woman who was a Holocaust Survivor. The men in our group liked the Flatulence Post in the Basement, and it was pretty funny, just not quite my cup of tea. Nice gift shop. Loved the interesting unique inspiring artwork. Totally disappointed to find their gift shop riddled with "stuff" that was mass produced in others countries.

The American Visionary Museum is a treat for any art lover who likes outside art, as well as families with children looking for a non-traditional museum experience. Three floors plus an adjacent building, full of thought provoking work, both visual and text. Fun gift shop too. Highly recommend- near Ft. Henry and the Rusty Scupper, Inner Harbor area.

It's not all fun and games at this fantastic museum. Be ready for hours of fascinating art. Creative and inspiring, I think there is something for everyone here. All ages will enjoy this. The creativity in these featured artists was mind boggling. Made me want to think outside the box a lot more in my own day to day life. Inspiring!
