Absolutely beautiful setting, culturally rich and fascinating, this historic site is definitely one worth seeing if ever traveling through any of the nearby canyon states. The end of April is a perfect time to see it, and getting in free during National Parks week was a bonus. Allow ample time to explore it if you are interested in history, culture,... More

Very different to the other national parks as this contains many unique archaeological sites in spectacular settings To get the best out of a visit book on the ranger tours but be aware they are strenuous and require ladder climbing and some crawling. We also recommend the pictograph trail which takes you go a spectacular panel of ancient pictographs through... More

This park is not to be missed. The visitor's center is brand new. The park, itself, is about 20 miles further on but the drive is one of the most scenic you'll find. We were on a motorcycle and enjoyed the hairpin turns and tight corners.

We arrived on a snowy day in mid April, which was a surprise to us. The very helpful rangers in the visitor center advised that as long as we had all weather tires, which we did, that it would be fine to go up, but probably to skip the Cliff Palace and focus on the other sites. We took their... More

Mesa Verde was on my 1999 list of the 50 places to see in a lifetime. Despite an aborted attempt in 2009 to be here, I was fortunate to visit the park and the cliff dwellings It not only met, but far exceeded my expectations as has everything in the 1999 National Geographic listing of 50 places to visit in... I was here in a different life but to see it again was pretty special. $10.00 NP entry fee good for 7 days. Really spectacular drive from the valley floor to the top of the mesa. There are numerous turn-outs on the road where most of the ruins in the park can be seen from the roadside or after short... More

The geographical location, the amazing cliff dwellings and the history of the Ancestral Puebloans would have to make Mesa Verde National Park one of the most amazing National Parks to see in the country. A combination of things to do, see and experience here is worth a few days at the very least. We came in March when only Spruce... More

The guided tour was worth every penny in to see the cliff dwellers. If you are fit you can take the tour down to the sight but you can get a wonderful view from a platform looking at the dwellings

We are seniors on what was probably our last trip West. I love the mystical, spiritual feeling one gets when at the dwellings. Spruce Tree House is so beautiful. Even at 70+ years, I was able to take that hike down and even more amazing climb back up. The smoke on the ceilings fascinate me. Last time, I got so... More

This is definitely worth a trip to the southwestern corner of Colorado. If you're not camping in the park (they offer RV or tent) you can just make it a day trip from Durango. Since there are buckets of great reviews here I just wanted to offer a couple of pointers. Plan ahead and pack in your car: jacket/umbrella, water,... More
