Not the greatest collection...many Calder, a Nevelson, etc. Building is lovely. Totally unfriendly, uninformative guard at front desk...too bad no cafe.

An impressive and varied mix from ancient through modern, Asian and African, and I can't believe it was free. Natural light, beautiful spaces, easy to sit and rest. We (including a 10 year-old) had a great time. There are a few shockers like the bound and skewered goat, so you may want to be a bit cautious with sensitive kids....

I have been visiting the art museum in Madison for over forty years!!! Imagine that. I a, a retired art teacher who has so very much appreciated the chance to bring art students to this gem over the years. I have also introduced family members to many artists over the years, all of whom have had work presented at the...

The Chazen has recently added an addition and it is beautiful, worth a visit even if you don't see an exhibit. The exhibits rotate, and there is also a permanent collection in the old building, which is worth your time. The new building has lots of glass and light and a beautiful gift shop. If you are in Madison, save...

As a New Yorker, I have been spoiled by some of the greatest art museums in the world. That said, the Chazen is a great museum with eclectic collections of interesting art. It is free and on the U. Of Wisconsin-Madison campus. Well worth two hours of your time when in Madison.
Being that this museum is free and on a college campus, I was expecting a small showing. This place is HUGE and offers a wide variety of art. I could have spent many hours here exploring.
I go to the Chazen often because my husband loves the classical chamber concerts on many Sunday afternoons in winter. I really enjoy it so much more since they opened the new building. The two are connected, old and new. They often have new exhibits. I like to get my exercise
walking around briskly and challenging myself to take in...

This exhibit pulled together the art that was created in 1934 to employ artists and to lift the spirits of those living through the Depression. It is a good variety of artists and displays very real pictures of 1930 America.
