While the ride is short, you won't get a better view of the city. You also can't beat a FREE activity! Riding the ferry from New Orleans over to Algiers is free for pedestrians and only a dollar or so for cars. Once on the other side, head down the street to the right and grab a cold beverage. Then... Glad we did it, but probably won't do it on our next visit. The homes are beautiful, but felt it was a bit over-rated.

First off...it's free! The ferry is located near Harrah's Casino, so the walk from the hotel gave a nice chance to see part of downtown. It was a little warm waiting in the terminal (for lack of a better word) but once on the ferry you could be in the upper level where there are seats or the lower level... More

If you are in the area, take a ferry ride. It is about 30 minutes round trip. Great way to see the city!

there's talk in the austerian ranks of discontinuing this ferry or charging to use it. please don't, it's such a nice option to hop over to Algiers for some non-hyped very cool Louisiana feel. Eat, shop, explore & come back anytime. Like the Staten Is Ferry in NYC, a great bargain that opens the eyes & pocketbooks of travellers &... More

Canal street is the major street in NOLA. It houses a lot of different businesses which is cool and you can walk up and down it and see lots of different people showing their cool talents and selling cool things.

Everyone should ride the absolutely free, you can take your car with you for a dollar, ferry across the Mississippi River to Old Algiers. We did not get off to explore the West Bank but wanted to get some photographs of the New Orleans skyline and aboard the ferry is absolutely the best spot to get them. You can ride... More

This is free to pedestrians or those on bikes. It takes about 5 mins to cross and gives a great view of New Orleans, plus a fun, free way to say you were sailing on the Mississippi!!!!

Located at Riverside and Canal Street, every 15 and 45 minutes past the hour a free ferry ride takes you Algiers, the second oldest settlement in N’Awlins, established in 1719. NOLA annexed the “red-headed stepsister” in 1870, an action that still has opponents. Like Vieux Carré, Algiers has many bars and restaurants, only not as crowded—a good thing for those... More

We had a blast aboard the oldest working steam ferry! We learned a lot about the city with the narrative from the captain! Great Jazz band in the banquet hall too!
