Great place for a stroll. You can park at the Tredegar Iron works and tour the old building and history. From there you can go across the foot bridge that crosses the James River under the Lee Bridge to Bell Isle. Then stoll along the canal pass Brown's Island and down to the turning basin at Shockoe Bottom. Shockoe Bottom... More

The walk is an amazing way to learn about the history of the Civil War and slavery in Richmond. You walk along the canal where slaves were brought in for auctioning and different locations of the war. If you continue the trail throughout the city, you can see the church where Patrick Henry said, "Give me liberty...." There are many... More

My husband and I parked in front of the Main Street Station and had a bit of a walk to the Canal Walk from there; and I must say, were not impressed with our surroundings or other folks in the vicinity (at least 3 looked homeless). We did enjoy some of the canal walk but didn't take in the entire... More

My husband and I took our three older children to the Canal Walk approximately 1 1/2 years ago. We have never been before & were looking for something to do outdoors. It was a gorgeous day & we enjoyed a nice walk. :)

Nice tourist location to walk during nice weather. This is one of the nicest places in downtown Richmond near the river. Read the signs before you park for all the fine print.

Yes the walk was very fun and interesting. We had three kids and they had a blast. However, if you are doing the walk with kids make sure you have a bathroom plan. The bathroom at the Canal Cafe blew up so we asked security in the Troutman Sanders building --- they refused to help three children who needed to... More

We walked along here on New Years Day so it was very empty. Very interesting. There is a boat ride in the warmer weather too. We also walked out to Belle island and walked around it. Lots of hisotry there too. Was the site of a prison during the civil War.

On a bright ,sunny but cold November day it was most pleasant strolling along the Canal Walk and taking in the history. We passed lots of office workers either jogging or eating lunch and it was a pleasant spot. The view of the old bridges , canals and the historic sites from Richmonds sacking were interesting and added to the... More

Loved walking through the canal walk and seeing the flood wall painted with murals from people in the ART180 group. SO COOL! Must see!

If you are looking for an informative tour of Richmond, this one is great and inexpensive ($5). The boat ride takes you through the old cigarette factory area and offers a beautiful look at Richmond's history.
