This is a very old historical theater, and they show movies after they have left the main theaters, the seating is still with the original chairs, and on the weekend they have an Organ Player on the stage play before the show begins. Very interesting to see a theater like this, and see all the old photos of back in... More

I went here to see Identity Theft and Safe Haven. This is a beautiful theater even though it is very outdated, but that is what it is all about. The movie is only $1.50 and you can't beat that. The floors are disgustingly sticky but its a theater so you can expect that. I take my 77 year old mom... More

Old theater with a $1.99 movie...lines get long fast....choose the night when the organ player comes "out" of the pit and plays.

$2 for a fancy theatre date? Yes, please. Everyone should patronize this fantastic local non-profit. It's a big part of the culture of the near West End of Richmond and the anchor of Carytown. Even the concessions are way cheaper than a normal theatre!

Just reminded me of movie buildings from my day.The strong smell of real popped corn. Young lady at front door invited us in to just look around.

Visited the Byrd on a date night. Brought back memories of old going to the movie in a builidng with the single screen. Even though the seats are old and not as comfortable as the newer venues, I still enjoyed the night. The price cannot be beat.... $2.

What a great experience this has been for us over the years. The architecture, the timelessness of stepping into what is a part of history. All for a buck.99! Fresh popcorn to boot. The only downside is the seats are not as comfortable as you might like. I would pay for my own if they'd let me.

Richmond's landmark movie palace. Be sure to come Saturday night for the Mighty Wurlitzer concert before each $2.00 movie.

Seeing a movie in this historical building is awesome. Before the show, the organist rose from the ground and played a skillful 15 minutes in place of the movie previews. The tickets are cheap $1.99 but the concession inside is expensive. The bathrooms and seats you sit in need to be restored. I suggest a short movie as you can... More

I didn't even see the interior of the Byrd Theatre in downtown Carytown, but was blown away by the outstanding exterior architecture and attention to detail. Apparently, the interior is just as good and thank goodness someone had the foresight to save and preserve this beautiful landmark. I hope that the pictures I took do it justice, but trust me,...
