The chocolate your runs a 4pm every afternoon in English or Spanish. The cost is $5 per person. You don need to book. Just turn up 10mins or so beforehand. The tour was interesting and we got to taste at the various stages. Mixing our own combinations was a nice twist too but the highlight was really the brownie -... More

The brownies are excellent!!! This was interesting. Learned about cacoa. Also tasted an actual stevia plant. He gave us this leaf to taste. That was so cool. It was interesting to learn about the pods. We went to the jungle after this and saw people drying their cacoa on the side of the road. They fence it off with rocks... More

The tour was very interesting. Never knew how the chocolate was made. Labor intensive but worth it in the end result. It was fun to see how they do the chocolate with different herbs to give the chocolate great tastes. Loved the chocolate with ginger and of course the chocolate with coffee. You really have not tasted brownies until you... More

The tour starts at 4:00, but the owner's brother was sweet enough to give us one a little earlier since we were driving back to Quito. We had a quick lunch (the BBQ chicken and mashed potatoes - excellent!!!) before the tour. We learned great info and got to see the process. It was very interesting to see how the... More

We took the tour in November and were quite surprised at what we saw and learned along the way. From herbs to chocolate, they grow or make it all right here. The tasting was interesting, adding different spices to the chocolate. We purchased a 70% chocolate bar and didn't eat it until about a week ago - WOW, wish we... More

Our guide spoke fluent English because he is the brother of the owner who used to live in Colorado Springs. He was great and knowledgeable. First, he went through the history of chocolate and we tried the fruit that the cocoa bean comes from, the cocoa beans and the nibs. Afterwards we saw two other rooms related to the chocolate... El Quetzal is a great stop on your way through Mindo. Stop by and take their awesome Chocolate tour or sit down and have a bite to eat ( with a cup of coffee, chocolate or beer of course! ) at their cafe. The staff and the owner are very helpful and I have never seen so many products made... More

We visited El Quetzal in December 2011, so this is not the newest information. We went to El Quetzal for a cup of coffee and a brownie, which were recommended here :) They were both delicious and the stuff was very friendly, so we decided to return next day after our half days walk to the waterfalls. There were only... More

We we taken here by our guide. My husband was reluctant but quickly became fascinated as were taken through the process of chocolate making from the cocoa pods through to cocoa powder and cocoa beans ready for export. The owner was knowledgable and gave the tour in both Spanish and English. This was the highlight of our holiday so far... More

A great little casual tour of a small scale chocolate operation. I loved getting to see the equipment close up - and taste the chocolate in different stages. Oooo, and the smells!
