The San Antonio Zoo was first established with a donation from George W. Brackenridg in the 1800s. Two of the first cageless exhibits in the U.S. opened here in 1929 and the bird collection is one of the world's largest. « less

My girls had a lot of fun at this zoo, really nice landscape, reptile exhibit, aquarium, butterfly garden, loved everything about it. They even have an area designated just for kids. Beautiful place, I will be back!

We had a nice morning at the San Antonio Zoo. As other reviewers have noted, the grounds are kept up beautifully, and it was a pleasure to walk around and enjoy the lovely weather. The highlight of the trip was definitely the butterfly experience. My husband and I spent about half an hour just walking around the small enclosure and... More

We traveled all the way from Dallas Texas to the San Antonio Zoo. It was not crowed. It’s Huge and restroom is always clean. Not a lot of animals but I can tell you the zoo in San Antonio is better than the ones here in Dallas.

I am a bit of a zoo snob. I've visited them all over the country with my children, and San Antonio does a pretty good job. The landscape is beautiful. There are plenty of shady places to rest, and some pretty cool exhibits for the kids. Lory Landing is one of them. It's a bird exhibit where you can feed... More

We've been to lots of zoos, so our expectations are pretty high. And San Antonio Zoo did a great job. The good stuff: The zoo is easy to navigate, has lots of smooth paths with trees and shade, and is beautifully landscaped. The large animal exhibits were good. The "Africa live" area was especially fun. And they hippo exhibit was... More

We joined the zoo this year and had a fun time at the Mother's Day Breakfast. The zoo has all kinds of special events for members throughout the year. At this breakfast we visited the Tigers and talked to the trainers and saw the Tiger facility. The zoo has some beautiful birds and reptiles and animals and the grounds are... More

My wife and I visited the San Antonio Zoo this last weekend and it was very nice. Wide sidewalks, tall trees, shade, numerous spots to stop and have a cool drink and lots of animals. They have a mini-train that travels what seems to be about 2 or 3 miles around the area and makes stops at some of the... More

The San Antonio Zoo is a very nice little zoo built up among the hills. A lot of the animal enclosures are built into the hill. It's really a well done zoo. We loved the hippos and it's the first time I've ever seen a condor. There's a very large interactive kids area and a very nice African section with... More

The San Antonio Zoo is quite nice, and much larger than it appears from the road. It has a brand new African exhibit that is set up quite nicely. The only problem we had is the layout is a bit confusing, so take the map they offer to make sure you dont miss anything. There are lots of little places... More
