Fort Adams is huge and well maintained. Our guide was informative with a host of stories. Try not to go on an extremely windy day !!

Walked the loop, decent walk with some views. There is the fort in the center. They had tours, but they were limited in the times, so didn't take one. There were bathrooms, and plenty of picnic tables.
Fort Adams State Park is not to be missed! Even if you think you "don't like history" and that it doesn't look like much when you pull up, don't pass up what might turn out to be a highlight of your Newport vacation -- it was for us.
It's important, however, to take the guided tour. They are run twice...

We drove in here from our 10 mile scenic drive, but did not pay for the tour. We did however walk along the water out front of the fort which gave you a nice view across the harbor of the wharf area.
I visited Fort Adams during a sailing event, and the views from throughout the park were great. The park and event staff kept the place well organized. I'm not sure what I preferred, the expansive waterviews and walking area or the historic structures we could walk through and explore. A great place to bring the kids, or to bring visitors...
