All the hype is not fulfilled on Thames Street. Most good restaurants are off the street on the pier and it seems like all the stores are the same (cheap jewlery or overpriced clothing). As a guy it is very boring but my wife liked it, so there!

I've lived in Newport for about a month now and I've been down to the shops on Thames Street at least 4 times. Most of them aren't chains, some are a little pricey though. Everything is really cute and nautical. There are a ton of great restaurants too, and a really good coffee shop called Mokka.
Lots of shops, restaurants and bars so plenty to keep you interested. Cobbled road which is quaint but a pain with a buggy. Worth checking out the historic area directly behind Thames Street.
There are tons of restaurants, bars, nightlife and places to have fun on Thames Street! I love Christies and O'Brians.
We ate at the red parrot; boutiques pricey; not much variety in shops; the yacht restoration school was wonderful and friendly
Thames Street has a plethora of different restaurants, cafes, bars, trinket shops, and a great antique selection. This is the main street to stop at when first arriving in Newport.
Thames street offers a wide range of shoppes from high end clothing stores to t-shirt shops offering unique souvenirs. Plenty of restaurants to try too. Park the car, feed the meter and enjoy a leisurely walk down the street.
This was our first time in Newport/ middle town and we loved this street. I had no idea what it was until we were driving around and saw a whole bunch of people around and cute little shops. We loved all the little shops and restaurants. We went for our honeymoon to newport and the weather was a little bit...

Everyone we met was very helpful and friendly. if you are driving, I recommend a smaller vehicle because the streets are extremely small and the parking is...

It's great to have most everything located on one long street. Unique shops, chain stores and restaurants. A fun walk and good shopping.
