I have been an active USA birder for over 30years(over 700 north american life birds). This was my 13th visit to Italy(about 300 paleoarctic life birds). On this trip I was primarily interested in visiting old Romanesque churches. As an after thought, way not incorporate some birding! Thanks to the internet I discovered Marco. The day and two evenings that... More

Before our trip to Italy I had contacted Marco to do a day of birding near Siena in Tuscany. Most of our trip was in the cities of Rome, Florence and Venice so we were looking forward to getting out into the country to do some birding. Marco was great at communicating with us by email and then in Italy... More

When we contacted Marco about taking us bird watching somewhere in or near Rome, he immediately had two viable suggestions. He picked us at the train station, and we spent a cold but very rewarding day seeing many birds and learning more about all things Italian from Marco. He is extremely knowledgeable, pleasant, and very considerate of physical limitations. We... More

During the last week of October 2011 we (four couples) had the pleasure of being in Tuscany. During one day Marco has taken us on a walk to the monastery of Francis of Assisi. A beautiful hike through an old forest in full autumn splendour. Marco is not only very knowledgeable about the area and the history, he completes that... More

My interest in "Walking in Etruria" was to find a guide for birding excursions and countryside explorations. Marco Valtriani is an excellent birder and professional biologist (also see his "Birding in Italy" website). Marco has been birding since he was a teenager and his enthusiasm is contagious. Marco is also very pleasant company - so you not only get a... More

My wife and I toured with Marco in October 2011 for three very enjoyable (and full) days of exploring and birding in southern and coastal Tuscany. At our request, he designed a great trip that combined a lot of birding (mostly in the Maremma region near the coast) as well as exploring some hill towns (like Pitigliano and Pienza) and... More

Marco is a superb guide, very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and generous in sharing his experience with the REAL Tuscany. His walks reveal a side of Italy not often seen or appreciated, be it in the apparent wilderness of the Casentino National Forest, or in some forgotten medieval village where life seems to be unchanged for centuries. He is quite flexible in... More

Our trip was probably not the normal type guide Marco Valtiani gets asks to lead. We wanted to get away from the city, see the Tuscan countryside and get in a little birdwatching. However, we are of an age where strenuous hiking and climbing are not that pleasant. We also did not want to have to drive ourselves. Marco suggested... More

Last month me and my friends had the chance to visit a beautiful Italian region, called Tuscia, just north of Rome. Leaded by Marco Valtriani, a nice and really practised Italian guide, we had a very particular hiking tour, which Italian people call "archaeotrekking". Walking into a lovely rural context, Marco let us see a lot of ancient sites, tombs... More
