A large colonial house with all the promise of an interesting look in the past. Sadly not, it is mostly empty with just a couple of rooms to look around, it took longer for us to find where to pay our RM10 each than to look around the house. There are far better colonial houses on the island, don't waste... More

Very classy and relaxing. Great place to go if you are looking for a quiet tea or meal with friends. The atmosphere is perfect for holding great conversations because the staff is attentive but are quiet and do not interrupt. There are only a handful of tables and each table is given a good amount of room so you will... More

Visited Suffolk House again for the second time. Absolutely no argument about the grandeur of this mansion. Our only gripe is that from the entrance driveway the mansion seemed to be facing the creek and that the entrance should have been from the creek side. That view of this newly restored mansion would surely be more magnificent. Well in any... More

There's no better way to glimpse the home of the Capt (Francis Light) responsible for founding the beautiful island of Penang than a trip down memory lane to Suffolk House. An example of colonial heritage at it's finest, the beautifully restored mansion proved to be a trip worth making, especially for those with a taste for history. Touring SH was... More

Difficult to locate and difficult to get to. Once there there is no real experience. An expensive rest and cafe. Not worth the effort.

From their publicity, you get the impression that Suffolk house sits in an expansive estate, the reality is it's surrounded by high rises, a noisy school and very little else. We went to visit the house and wanted a light lunch. Took ages to find anyone and finally found a waiter in a dirty uniform. Told we could not have... More

Malaysian tourist deptt. are very good sellers. They sell every lousy ordinary place in their country to the unassuming naiive traveller. Most of such ,so called tourist attractions are business ventures.Suffolk house is also one of them.Just because some rich Britisher lived here once & he did so n so for Penang, they are under awe with his big bungalow. So,if you are keen... This is a really great place for fine dining. There isn't much choices for fine dining restaurant in Penang. But if you are seriously looking for one, Suffolk House is one of your choice. The environment and architecture is really great. The house is built at the middle of green. The interior design of the restaurant remains with the classical... More

Had a guided tour around Suffolk House. The guide was very informative and made the history of the house interesting, telling us who had occupied the house and how the renovations developed. There were info leaflets and a small shop with reasonably priced souvenirs. I would recommend using the house tour guide otherwise it might be a bit boring walking... More
