We experienced this lake and its backwaters via Alleppy, when we rented a 'shikara' by the hour for four hours.

What a huge lake... Absolute treat to see ducks swimming all over, chinese fishing nets, multitudes of house boats and ofcourse be in one of them. Having lunch in the middle of the lake with your boat anchored is in itself an experience.
