"Bad water basin - one of the hottest places in the world - temp gauge on the car was 126f when we were here!! As you stand looking out at the salt flats, turn around and look up at the mountains behind you... You will see a sign indicating sea level... You will then understand just how far below sea..." level you are. There were toilets available here but didn't use them so not sure how clean they were?

"Since studying California history in high school many years ago, I had wanted to visit Scotty's Castle and actually see this "wonderous castle in the desert." A recent trip to Death Valley National Park provided me this opportunity and Scotty's Castle proved to be as interesting and amazing as I rem..."embered it from my high school studies.
The Castle is located on the northeastern edge of Death Valley National Park. It is about an hour's drive from the national park's museum and main tourist accomodations at Furnace Creek and also accessible from the Nevada side of the national park via Highway 95.
The National Park Service offers two guided tours of the castle, a "Main House Tour" and an "Underground Mysteries Tour." Each tour takes about an hour. For both tours, tickets are available for purchase on-line or by telephone; purchase of tickets in this manner prior to arriving at the castle is strongly recommended.
