  "We had the best day of our visit to Bermuda completely by accident. We took the ferry from the Dockyard to St. George, expecting to walk around for a few minutes and then ride the next ferry back. But instead, the Visitors Center had a photo of Clearwater Beach that made us want to see it ourselves...." So we took the #6 bus to Clearwater Beach, and then walked from there into Cooper's Island National Park, a series of gorgeous beaches, headlands, and trails that were almost empty of other visitors. This was preserved from development because it was a NASA base until a few years ago. Spectacular turquoise ocean, crystal clear water, a variety of sea birds, etc etc. Empty yet easy to reach by bus. I strongly recommend a visit if you like scenery, nature, and going someplace special while everyone else is shopping. " More >

  "We loved this walk out to the ocean and back. We saw many birds and reptiles (small lizards seemingly on every other tree trunk) as we trekked past the pond and out to the shoreline with its famous checkerboard rock formation and crashing waves. We didn't see any other tourists but did meet a few lo..."cals out walking their dogs. Two things to keep in mind that other reviewers have noted: the trail is not really marked, so you never know how far along you are. (When you come to the dairy farm, you're almost at the exit out onto the main road.) Secondly, you'll need tougher shoes than I wore. You will find this cardio-vascular challenge from the portion of the Railway Trail that parallels Middle Rd. in Southhampton Parish...". A sign will point you to the Lighthouse. I cannot tell you the exact length of the path, but I can tell you it ascends at what seems greater than a 45 degree angle. After you've huffed and puffed your way almost to the end, you're greeted by a huge flight of concrete steps to the driveway leading to the Lighthouse. I have previously visited here (by moped, not walking) and had decided not to go to the top of the Lighthouse. I was sure my husband would do so since it has always been one of his favorite spots in Bermuda.
