"We did the snorkeling tour with Captain Wade and guide Brian. Well beyond what we expected. Brian is a chef and made salsa fresh that morning. The water was like glass, and the catamaran rode very smoothly. We saw humpback whales, and a pod of small whales decided to swim alongside us, going under t..."he boat, and jumping all around us. This went on for quite a while, and Wade just kept us nearby while the whales played. No rush, and no intrusion into the animals' space. The snorkeling was in a national park, and Brian was careful to point out and show us the marine life without disturbing it; Wade made a point of saying that nothing leaves the park - a variation on, "take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints". Highly recommended.

"We took the tour to San Javier from our home base of Villa del Palmar Loreto. Our guide Roberto made the trip as enjoyable as possible while our driver Fausto skilfully navigated some rough roads washed out by last fall's destructive Hurricane Paul. Our first stop was at a wide place in the road fea..."turing a variety of local flora, streams and two ancient rock paintings. We were advised to touch nothing, for example, a nearby hierba de flecha shrub, every part of which is poisonous! We continued on to the outskirts of a ranch, once owned by three maiden sisters buried in a family cemetery near a chapel open to the pilgrims who trek to San Javier. The mission itself, built by the Jesuits, and the surrounding village is quite lovely. How and why such a place was constructed is difficult for a person living in the 21st Century to fathom. The mission is still active in that on Thursdays, a priest travels to the village to conduct mass for local inhabitants. Roberto took us on a walking tour...

"We were going to drive there ourselves but decided to go with a guide, we were glad we did! Our guide, Oscar was GREAT! We stopped along the way many times, the cave paintings, the old fig tree growing out of a rock and the highlight was stopping at a families working ranch/house and learning about ..."cheesemaking and tasting their delicious goat cheese! Yes, the road is really bad in many places but even I didn't freak out! And I was sooo glad we did go! The scenery is awesome! The Mission is beautiful, and the sense of history and sacredness you feel there is beautiful! The surrounding community gives you a feel of authentic Baja!
