  "Very pleasant day out. Beautiful grounds and gardens. House very interesting. Owner displays his collection of classic cars. Try to go when the sun is shining. Plenty to see and do. Will probably pay a second visit in the near future as we enjoyed it so much. Easy to find with plentiful parking."

We loved the peachy tones of the graceful 19th century cloister which was full of Roman antiquities. The great state rooms here are some of the finest 17th century rooms still in existence and the unique point is the display of many Van Dyke masterpieces, in the setting for which they were always intended. The way the massive 'Philip Fourth Earl of Pembroke and his Family' is dominated by a very beautiful young woman in a shimmering silver dress, made a great impact on us. There are many other Old Masters here, but one we really liked, 'The Church of St Michael, Antwerp' was quite small but captivated because it seemed that every cobble and brick had been meticulously portrayed.   "Lovely views"
  "Walked there along Ridgeway past Wroughton airfield. Lovely views all the way and the castle a great place to stop for a picnic and soak up the countryside. Well worth it!"
