Built under Emperor Augustus in the 1st century AD, the Roman Theatre of Orange experienced a real rebirth in 2003, transporting visitors back to Imperial Rome. The new tour and the free audioguide in seven languages tell visitors about the shows and social life in the Provencal city during Roman times. In the new projection room, the film, with computer-generated images and reconstructions of shows, retraces the history of the Roman Theatre of Orange.

"This is an exceptionally well-preserved Roman site. The massive structure is impressive, to say the least. Be sure to get the free audio guide, for interesting commentary on the theater and the adjacent ruins of a Roman temple. The movie didn't do much for me. The museum across the street has some i..."nteresting sculpture associated with the theater. Afterwards, try the ice cream place close to the museum - very nice.

"Really worth a visit.
When you look up it's a really grand building. And on top of the theatre, you get an amazing view over the city.
The audio guide is very interesting but sometimes it's a bit to elaborate for my liking.
I didn't find the movie-animation really fascinating.
And the mus..."eum across the street is a bit dull.
Other than the 'Theatre' and the 'Arc de Triomphe' there's not so much to see or do in Orange - so it's a quick visit that takes you around 2 hours.

"Terrific introductory vide. I highly recommend taking the time to watch. Informative but lengthy audio guide - I would suggest picking and choosing your audio numbers or you will be there for hours. The theatre is amazing, wonderfully preserved, and has a couple of unique projection rooms in the ..."interior hallways of the stalls. Terrific gift shop as well.
