you have to read quite a bit from the wall, but it is worth the time - fascinating stories about polar explorations, with years of dedication and courage. the fact that having two real explorer ships inside the museum is amazing. nice sea view outside of the museums. kids may get a bit boring just running on the boats, but definitely recommended for adults who love adventures

Although the weather wasn't great we really enjoyed the park. Can easily see everything in a couple of hours and its just a short tram ride from the City Centre. The sculptures are amazing in character and detail - a must visit when you are in Oslo. The park is in a nice part of the city and the local area is well with exploring too.

This building is a wonderful way to make the arts accessible and attractive to the people while enhancing the aesthetic of the city. The gentle inclines to the top of the Opera House were not too rigorous. The panoramic view of the water and city was very worth it!

    A couple of caveats:
    - if it is icy and snowy, then be very careful. I would not have wanted to climb if the angled stone was a sheet of ice.
    - the bright sun against the stone made it difficult to see the different levels of blocks, so both my husband and I both mis-stepped not realizing there was a change in height of the inclined planes of stone. Fortunately, the differences are small and not a normal step height.
    - one the side closer to the Munch museum is a more accessible ramp with a hand rail to help someone get up to the top or down

The Opera House bathroom has a fee but there is a separate building as you walk toward the MUNCH museum that is a free public bathroom.

You could quite easily spend over 4 hours looking round this open air museum including inside some of the buildings and exhibition rooms - its that big!

I checked in at reception, received my ticket and a coloured A4 print out of the site with location markers and proceeded through the turn styles to enter a compound surrounded by 4 buildings, each housing exhibition spaces. I visited the Sami Cultural exhibition which was well done, showing traditional dress, customs, life-style and what it means to be Sami today. There was also quite a few other exhibitions to view such as the development and growth of the Norwegian clergy from the 16th century, religion and so forth. If you are short on time however, I do definitely recommend viewing the open air museum first.

The open air museum comprises of many different architectural buildings and styles from houses, barns, apartments and more whilst offers the opportunity to walk round inside the majority of these. There are information boards explaining the social history behind some of these buildings as each focus on a different part of the country and region, such as Finnmark which suffered horribly as a result of the scored earth policy of the Germans, many losing homes - of which were not quickly able to be replaced. One highlight is the Stove church, which was popular with other visitors so I might recommend being patient if wanting to walk inside and have a look round this.

All areas of the open air museum are easily accessible via gravel paths (main path leading round in a circle), but some on my visit were covered with ice meaning some buildings could not be seen up-close although the main route round was generally clear. If visiting in winter I would recommend proper outdoor footwear and to rap up warm. Likewise toilets are located near the entrance in a couple of places, so I would also recommend going before exploring further into the open air museum.

There was also a shop but it was very expensive. A small pin badge would set one back 125NOK!

Well worth the ticket to visit this place, and if you have the Oslo pass entrance is free!

Included in Oslo pass, this is worth checking out, especially in conjunction with touring the park next door. A lot of the work here seems to be workups and models of the future sculptures you will find in the park. We were here on a Saturday afternoon and we were the only people in the entire museum. The entire museum can easily be seen in less than an hour.

Because this is a viking country you must is it this museum. It small and pricey but still worth it. There are well preserved ships from ancient times and even realistic ones as though you are actually in a ship. Don't miss this one even if you are not a lover of museums.

Had the opportunity to explore the fjords via cruise while visiting. It's beautiful, with lots of small islands and communities near the city. Well worth exploring by boat if you can!

The Oslo Metro uses online tickets from the RuterBillett mobile ticket app. Buy your ticket shortly before you board since it has a time limit unlike the normal train tickets that give you an hour. You will likely only need to buy the ticket from your initial train metro stop but not back again. The metro was clean and felt safe at least when we were there with all the people going to the ski festival. There is no bathroom in the Holmenkollen metro station.

Holmenkollen ski museum, ski jump, ski area is a 10 - 20 minute steep up hill walk from the Holmenkollen metro stop. I walk on a 5 degree incline on my treadmill and the all uphill climb felt more like a 10 degree incline in spots. It took me 10 minutes to walk downhill from the ski jump to the metro and 20 minutes to walk up (with breaks) to the cross country ski area which was past the ski jump area. If it is snowy and icy, you will need ice cleats to get to the ski area since the uphill walk would be slippery. There is gravel for traction. Just be careful coming downhill, since it can also cause your foot to slide on the gravel.

As you walk uphill, you will come to a fork with signs pointing to a ski arena two different ways. Take the path to the left if you want to go to the ski jump and cross country area. The path on the right was totally blocked off by barriers so we could not cross the street during the World Cup Cross Country Ski Festival. It led up the mountain to the less expensive seats where the fights occurred in March 2024, not down in the stadium areas. To cross the street we had to back track to the bridge to cross the road.

The Homenkollen ski jump is very impressive. The steps are steep and the concrete seating is cold. Bring something to sit on that will provide cushion and insulation from the cold.

For the cross country area, the seating is metal grates crisscrossed and open to any wind and cold.

At the ski jump area, there are porta potties to the left of the restaurant. At the Cross country area, the porta potties are to the far right of the arena. The cross country area is located up around a small hill past the ski jump area.

There's something for everyone here as the museum combines traditional and contemporary art with architecture and design to give a comprehensive deep dive into visual and practical arts. The displays are housed in creatively curated rooms over three large floors and it takes time to see everything. It's worth checking the layout before visiting to hone in on areas of interest in order avoid museum fatigue. There is an in-house app that may help.

The art collection includes classical and modern sculpture, Renaissance and Impressionist masters and some lesser known (to those outside the region) local artists. The design section is particularly impressive tracing Scandinavian design (furniture, fashion and more) through time, and displaying many readily recognisable pieces.

If you have children or bored adults with you, look out for the special activity compartments laid into benches in many of the rooms.

The shop on the ground floor has a great collection of books, local design pieces, gift items and art cards.

Be aware that jackets as well as bags over A4 size need to be left in lockers (free of charge) before entering. We found this a bit odd but apparently it's not unusual in these parts.

An absolutely amazing experience, there is so much to see, don't miss it. It is a very large park and was not crowded when we went. There are some parts that are accessible by many stairs so it might prove a little difficult for wheelchair users, having said that the park is vast and the statues are huge so i am sure you can get a good view anyway

A visit to a castle is a good way to round of any holiday and this was no exception. People with limited mobility may find it hard going but it is worth the visit if you can manage it,
